Origin of Kashan Rugs
Kashan Wool Rug 6.8×9.8, one of Iran’s oldest cities, is located in the central region of the country. Although some suggest the city’s history dates back to the 17th century, elements of Kashan’s designs trace back to the 16th century, particularly during the reign of Shah Abbas. The term “Kashan” refers to a hand-knotted rug, known for its diamond-shaped medallion. These designs often feature the Shah Abbas field, named after the Mughal king who significantly advanced Persian textile art in the 16th and 17th centuries. The field showcases curvilinear floral motifs that evoke a garden-like atmosphere and appear in a variety of Persian rug styles. Typically, the designs come in two styles: all-over patterns or ones with a central medallion.
Rug Features and Design
This luxurious Kashan rug highlights the rich Shah Abbasi field, enhanced by a central medallion in the primary colors of midnight blue and ivory. The red field, covered with floral vines and framed by black borders, creates a striking contrast. Additionally, the lilac-blue palette on the borders adds a soothing effect. Handcrafted with care, artisans use natural vegetable extracts to dye the rug’s threads, ensuring vibrant and long-lasting colors. With a PSI count of 150 x 90, the rug promises excellent durability and quality.
